Australia Rugby Shirts

Australia’s international rugby union team, nicknamed the wallabies, are one of the most successful teams on the world rugby stage taking part in all six world cup tournaments and winning a record two titles at the event. In addition to this tournament, the wallabies also participate in the annual tri nations tournament, fought fiercely with rivals the All Blacks and South Africa’s Springbok teams. The side can trace their history as far back as 1883, when they were the first team to go on tour overseas against New Zealand.  This tour was closely followed on Australian soil when a team from New Zealand came to New South Wales, defeating the wallabies in all three of their matches.

In more recent times, the team have experienced a wealth of success in both annual tournaments in which they competed. In 2000 Australia managed to rack up their first Tri Nations win as well as retaining the Bledisloe Cup over the All Blacks. The following year, during 2001, the wallabies beat the British and Irish Lions team for the first time in their history. This run of success was brought to an abrupt end in 2002 after failing to keep their hold on the Tri Nations title accompanied by their loss of the Bledisloe Cup the following year. In 2003 the side made an impressive start to the Rugby World Cup, beating Argentina, Namibia, Romania, Ireland and Scotland, later being beaten by shock outsider England with a drop goal from Johnny Wilkinson in extra time.

The wallabies, like their southern hemisphere rivals, do not play at a fixed stadium. Instead, they tour the country using a variety of different venues including the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, the Tesltra Dome in Melbourne and the ANZ Stadium in Sydney, among others.

Team Jersey:

The wallabies to date play in the colours of gold and green, as worn by the team since 1928 when the governing body opted for the colours of the Australian Amateur Representative. Until then, the wallabies had played in the regional colours of the area in which they played. The current shirt, as worn during the last Rugby World Cup also bears the emblem of the side, a wallaby holding a rugby ball, as well as the highly controversial tanned curve spanning across the wearers chest which some as referred to as resembling the now infamous ‘man bra’ from the America television comedy Seinfeld.

Team Record:

In total, Australia have played some 459 matches throughout their long history and have won just over half of these with a win record of 51.85%, equating to 238 wins. This record is not as impressive as some, notably both New Zealand and South Africa with whom the tri nations is contested have significantly higher win rates in comparison. However, this does not tell the entire story with Australia winning holding more World Cup titles than either of these two teams.
