England Rugby Shirts

The English national rugby union team have a long and rich history extending as far back as 1871, with the loss of their first international match to that of Scotland by a single try.  Since then the team has seen its share of ups and downs but have remained a force to be reckoned with as one of the sports leading teams. Currently ranked fifth in the world, they have managed to rack up 25 Six Nations tournament wins as well reaching the final of the rugby world cup three times, coming runner-up in 1991 and winning it once in 2003.

Since 1910 the home of English Rugby Union has been Twickenham Stadium, also known as the ‘cabbage patch’ as this was its use prior to the stadiums construction.  The first international fixture to be played here was against Wales who were beaten 11-6 by the home side. With a capacity of 82,000, after the 2006 extension of the south stand, this stadium has become one of the largest venues in Rugby Union. The team, nicknamed the red and whites, traditionally play in white shorts, navy socks (although these have since been changed to red and white) with a white jersey. The away jersey, which until recently was also navy blue, has now become red. These shirts also bear the emblem of the English Rugby Union side, the English red rose which is found on the left hand side of the wearer’s chest.

Team Jersey:

England’s jersey is manufactured by American sportswear giant Nike, with the home shirt mainly white with a red slash and the away shirt in red with a white sleeve. The shirt also bears the emblem of the side, the English red rose as well as the logo of their current sponsor electronic communications sponsor o2. This jersey has been made to be worn by the team for games during 2007 and 2009, and will be the shirt worn by the team during this year’s Six Nations tournament.

Team Record:

Despite winning both the World Cup once and the Six Nations numerous times England’s overall record is far from world beating. They have averaged a win rate of just over 50%, but in head to head results against some of the sports leading teams such as Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, they have struggled to make much head way with them winning as little as 33% of these fixtures overall.
