Fiji Rugby Shirts
Rugby was first introduced to Fiji by European soldiers in 1884. However, it wasn’t until 1913 that the Fiji Rugby Union was formed with their first game being against the mighty New Zealand All Blacks who destroyed Fiji by 67 points to 3, despite the Fiji team being comprised entirely of Europeans. The following year saw the creation of a native competition and in 1915 the Fiji Native Union became affiliated to the Fiji Rugby Football Union.
Like many countries in the Pacific region, Fiji Rugby is shrouded in history, culture and myth. Like the All Blacks, the Fiji war dance performed before every game dates back to times when Fiji was at war with neighboring Pacific countries. The cibi – the Fijian war dance – has been used on the rugby field since 1939.

Fiji is one of a few countries where rugby union is the main sport and there are 80,000 registered professional players. Considering the population of Fiji is only 950,000 it is clear to see how seriously Fijian’s take this sport. Despite these astonishing levels of professional Fiji rugby players, the national squad actually has a tough time getting players to play for Fiji; the majority of players have lucrative contracts with European or Super 14 teams and in addition, many Fiji-eligible players actually end up playing for Australia or New Zealand instead.
